New from Hagen Music: The Star that Bears Your Name

The Star that Bears Your Name
(music & lyrics by B.D.Scheihagen)

There's a star somewhere up above
that in heaven bears your name
It flared into existence
the same day that you came

A message sent by starlight
has come to you in time to say
"Just like baby Jesus,
You, too, are divine."

New from Hagen Music: Time Will Tell

Time Will Tell
(music & lyrics by Kyle Scheihagen)

Better do something cos something ain’t right
Sitting there singing your sweet lullaby
While sirens are screaming “The baby’s on fire!”
But you go on believing it all will turn right
Well, I say “Time will tell…”

Featured Video: "Un Poquito Mas" by Team Islas

Video of the Day: October 20th, 2011
(written by Patricia Islas; arranged by Team Islas)

"Un Poquito Mas" is one of several instrumental pieces written by Patricia Islas for the instrumental Jazz-fusion group, Team Islas.  Ms. Islas is one half of the team's two core members, the other being Doug Bush, the drummer.  Team Islas has been supplemented over the years by a changing roster of honorary team members such as Brent Scheihagen (on guitar) and Hillary Early (on bass).  Team Islas continues to perform and write music are primarily based in the North Texas area where Doug and Patricia also teach music to hundreds of North Texas students.

Brent was fortunate to perform several times with Team Islas in late 2008 to early '09 before making the decision to migrate to Taiwan.  This is video from one of those performances and we'll be adding others to our VIDEOS PAGE, so check those out as well!

New Video: "Tap Out" - Live in Taipei!

Riverside Music Cafe (河岸留言)
15 September 2011

(by Brent D. Scheihagen)

Featuring Kyle Jeffcoat on violin and Daniel St. Clair on drums, this show was perhaps Brent's best yet and he owes it to those two good friends who helped him out.  He'd also like to thank Hongui (虹慧) for filming (as she so often has) and to Lance Gura for providing an audio recording which we mixed with the original video recording to improve the overall sound.

Thanks to everyone at Riverside and to everyone for listening to Hagen Music!

Dear friends, I wanted to say thanks once again to everyone who came out to see me play last Saturday at Luguo Cafe.  I was especially happy to hold this performance in honor of my good friend Kaiwei (seen at right) who sang two songs with me; "More than I can say" written by my brother Kyle and "Fortunate Child" written by myself with help from Kaiwei.  "Fortunate Child" is the first song that I helped to create including Chinese lyrics.
"Fortunate Child' - performed here for the first time - was written for Alan.  Two and a half years ago, I visited Kaiwei's friends, Joseph and Regina (their English names), in Hualien; they housed us, fed us and showed us around.  Regina was about 8 months pregnant with Alan at the time, so we wrote the song as a thank you.

I also want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who donated money on my behalf in order to help me to continue with my musical endeavors.  I began my studies at Ming Chuan University this week and as a student am not allowed to work, so the money that was donated will help to pay for rehearsal time, instrument repairs and - eventually - my first CD.  But, to remember that my goal in making music is not simply about being successful, becoming famous or making money, I donated a portion of that money to another worthy cause.
I make music because I love it and because I have something to share with the world.  It's also my goal to use my abilities and this music to make the world better if only in a small way.
Sincerely,
Brent D. Scheihagen

New from Hagen Music: Is this love?

Is this love?

(music & lyrics
        by Brent D. Scheihagen)

Love is a bit of a mystery.
Wouldn’t you agree?
The source of all things good and pure
Or so it would seem

It’s also the source of such pain
If you believe all of those who start wars
As they come knocking down your doors

New from Hagen Music: Taiwan Girls (台灣美女)

Taiwan Girls (台灣美女)
(music & lyrics by Brent D. Scheihagen)

You've got a way
that I just can't explain
Oh, it blows my mind
every, every, every, every single time
Ooh, you really knock me out
with the little tiny things you do
I just want to let you know
Oh, and by the way,
your girlfriend does it too.

New Videos from Hagen Music!

Hello everyone from us at Hagen Music!

We're proud to present two new and exciting videos for you here at Hagen Music.  The first is the culmination of a month's work with Terry Luan and Aaron Kraft.  As mentioned before, Brent has been collaborating with these two gentlemen for a competition.  The result is the video you see below!

The title of the video is 台灣無比精彩-探索台灣 ; the first six characters are the name of the competition and the last four are the song name -  'Explore Taiwan') .

While Brent provided most of the music - with Aaron providing the bass -, Terry provided not only the beat, but was the mastermind behind the whole project.  In addition to his musical talents, Terry (with help from his lady, Mia) created a truly beautiful video, highlighting the varied life and culture that is Taiwan.  It's been a real pleasure and new plans are already underway for another collaboration using music written by Aaron Kraft.

Here's an additional link to the video, just in case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbp4GsqaeTg  We hope you enjoy it! (Also look for a couple of special guests.)

Our second video was a brand new song by Brent - titled "All My Life, All My Heart" - which was debuted at his recent performance at Riverside Music Cafe (河岸留言).  The video, graciously taken by Lee Honghui, also features incidental vocals by Brent's niece, Adrianna.  The video was also recorded via cell phone, so apologies for the shaky filming.

All that being said,  Brent quite happy with the performance of the song and wanted to share it, especially with his friends and fans who weren't able to make it out that night.  We hope to see you next time!

Here's an additional link to this video, just in case:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVdt-R06-eI

New from Hagen Music: I'll Sleep When I Die

 I'll Sleep When I Die
(music & lyrics by Brent D. Scheihagen)

There’s no time for resting
Or to sit on my hands
As I clap at the monsters
That drift in the sands
On the shores of my brain
And deep in the cave of my heart
I must confess I’ve been telling you lies
I guess that I’ll sleep when I die

Waves #3: So ... what now?

*          *          *
"Do I have an answer to the great mystery?
No more than anyone else.
Have I come and gone before?
If so, how many times and in what fashion?

Who or what was I before?
Does it even matter if I know the answer or not?  I am here now."

Work in Progress #3: June 2, 2011

The current news from Hagen Music:

1. THE AI COMPETITION: First, the bad news.  "Carry On" was not selected as a winner of either category for Amnesty International Taiwan's "Voice for Freedom" Songwriting Competition.  (You can see the results here. ) While it's a little disappointing not to have won, Brent is very happy with the song that resulted from this and very happy for all the help that he had in recording.  "Carry On" came in at second for the popular vote, so Brent would like to thank everyone that took the time to vote.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

2.  LIVE PERFORMANCES: On to some good news!  Brent's first publicly promoted performance will be on Sunday June 26th at Riverside Music Cafe (河岸留言)!  (Scroll down to find Brent's date and click on the picture for more info.)  This will be a one-hour set; the performance begins at 9pm and costs NT$350.  Brent will be opening for "Baba Band" (Here's a video of one of their performances at Ted x Taipei.) It's going to be a good night, so bring your friends and come hear some great music!

Hagen Music is hoping that we will have Brent's first CD available in time for this performance.  Keep your fingers crossed!

3.  VIDEO:  As a preview for the upcoming performance,  Hagen Music has uploaded a video from a recent performance at Riverside.  The song is "Truth Comes" by Kyle Scheihagen.  Click here to view the video.

4.  MAKING CONNECTIONS:  As requested by Dallas, the profile on him will be delayed until he is ready to relaunch his website, but - don't worry - it will be coming soon!  Dallas is currently testing out the new changes he's made and will be ready to unveil his newly updated website (www.themonkeyzone.com) in the next couple of weeks.

Also, Brent had the pleasure of meeting Gelresai, another Taiwanese singer-songwriter here in Taiwan.  Brent was introduced to his music a couple of years ago via the film "Who is Singing There?" about the band, Totem. He was one half of Echo GS with Totem's singer, Suming, who is also in the Baba Band video linked above. You can check out some of Gelresai's music on YouTube.  He will be performing soon, Tuesday June 14th, here in Taipei.  More details soon as we find them out!

That's all the current news of note from Hagen Music.  Lots of stuff is in the works - a song here and there - so look forward to seeing and hearing more!  Thanks for listening!

New from Hagen Music: No I Never

No, I never

(music & lyrics by Brent D. Scheihagen)

I was out there on the road
Bitten by the cold of loneliness
You came to me one day
When I was led astray by ash and bone

No, I never ever thought I’d see
The day that love would come and conquer me

Work in Progress #2: May 22, 2011

More news from Hagen Music

1.  IN PRODUCTION: First, you'll notice the rather fancy design with Brent's name both in English and Chinese.  This is the front side of his name card which has been designed with the assistance and talent of a young Taiwanese artist named 陳青琳 (Chen Chinlin).  She will also be helping in the design of Brent's first soon-to-be published CD.

Chinlin (or Kim) does excellent work and Hagen Music was fortunate to be introduced to her and work via 李虹慧 Lee Honghui, who will be assisting with translation of the album information and, later, some of Brent's song lyrics into Chinese.  Hagen Music would like to recognize and promote the talents of such good friends.  And so...

2.  MAKING CONNECTIONS: Starting soon, Hagen Music will be starting a new series of posts featuring artists, musicians and other talented friends that we would like to help introduce to a wider audience.  The first will be a feature on Dallas Bluth (of Los Angeles, CA) and "The Monkey Zone." (Click if the anticipation is too much for you!)  Let's just say that without Mr. Bluth, you probably wouldn't be reading this now.  Stay tuned...

3.   "CARRY ON":  As mentioned in our first issue of "Work in Progress," Brent was working on a new song for Amnesty International Taiwan's 2011 "Voice for Freedom" Competition. We're happy to report that the song was completed and mailed on Tuesday.  A heartfelt thanks again to all the help from several friends who joined Brent in singing the chorus.  READ & LISTEN HERE if you missed it last time or want to hear it again.  Share it with friends, too!

4.   NOW ON FACEBOOK:  And last, but especially important, Hagen Music is officially launching it's facebook page with the very simple and easy to use URL: fb.hagenmusic.net.  (Again, thank you, Dallas!)  This will be the best place to keep up-to-date on Brent's performances, so check it out and 'LIKE' our new facebook page.  We hope you will!

That's all the big news for now from Hagen Music.  Thanks to everyone whose joined us so far; it's been a wonderful experience and we're looking forward to seeing you further on down the road.

New from Hagen Music: Carry On

Carry On

(music & lyrics by
Brent D. Scheihagen)

Carry on,
the darkest hour is just before the dawn.
You're not alone,
so get along and
pick up all your stones.

One by one, we come undone.
Two by two, me and you

dragged and kicked and
ground down by a heel.
It's no big deal,
just another turning of the wheel.

Three by three, you and me.
Four by four, we speak no more
and as the silence fills our ears
         the stones disappear.

Heaven comes,
so shed your skin and leave behind your bones.
Yes, heaven comes;
it won't be long, it won't be long, it won't be long...

Carry on,
Carry on,
Carry on,
Carry on…
    *          *          *

This song was recorded for Amnesty International Taiwan's "2011 Voice for Freedom" Songwriting Competition.  Image 1 is from Brent's notebooks.

Brent would like to thank
Zora Lee (虹慧),
Joanne Lee (李明芳),
Jason Lee (李柏緯),
Dana Wu (吳佳臻),
Eric Scheihagen and Michael McGregor
(who took the accompanying photo)
for the additional vocals.

Work in Progress #1: May 12, 2011

Here's the current news from Hagen Music:

     1.  Brent is currently working on a song for Amnesty International Taiwan's songwriting competition.  The song is titled "Carry On" and an early version can be seen here on YouTube.  The recorded version will be very different from the one on Youtube, featuring an electronic backdrop that ends up sounding like dance club music.  Be sure to listen when it's posted in the coming week.

     2.  Brent is also in discussion with an artist for his first published music; an 6 song EP featuring tunes that have all been posted on YouTube, but again sound very different from the recorded versions.

          1 - Tap Out
          2 - Is this love?
          3 - Taiwan Girls
          4 - M-pahiya (Tomorrow Never Knows)
          5 - No I never
          6 - Morning

Check out 'Tap Out' on Soundcloud if you missed it the first time or hear it again.  Look for 'Taiwan Girls' to posted soon.

     3.  Lastly, check out the Fan Links page to check out all these songs in the barest, most stripped down forms as published in 2008 during my "52 Songs in 52 Weeks" project on YouTube.

That's all for now from Hagen Music.  If you like what you hear, share it with your friends!
