New from Hagen Music: "Morning" ... plus

(music & lyrics by Brent D. Scheihagen)

As the morning sun was shining
bright upon your face,
were you wondering how or where
you'd ever find your place?

Are you holding on to pieces
of a past you held so dear?
Can't you see me by your side?
Can't you see me here?

New from Hagen Music: "Resurrection (復活)" ... featuring Aaron Kraft and Terry Luan

(Music & lyrics by Brent Scheihagen,
Aaron Kraft and Terry Luan)

A lot of strange things going on these days
A lotta gotta a little bit, a lotta got it made
From a small-time to a fat cat hood
The thieves are in the castle while the just roam the woods

There’s a dark, angry hum coming all around
You’re gonna feel the bite if you don’t listen to the sound

Double Feature: New Music & Video!

A Hagen Music Double Feature:

1) "Stray Cat Blues
performed by Fugue State 賦格狀態

Lance Guru: vocals
Kyle Jeffcoat: acoustic guitar, backing vocals, inappropriate screaming
Marco Ortman: piano
with friends -
Greg Tackett: electric guitar
Paul Routledge: drums
Brent Scheihagen: bass, backing vocals

During the last several months, while Brent wasn't attending classes or doing homework, he spent time rehearsing and performing with his friends in Fugue State.  Filling in on the bass (the first time he performed playing this instrument), Brent had a lot of fun playing some good rock'n'roll, not to mention more than a few original tunes by members of the band.  Despite having such a good time, Brent always felt that he was just helping out Fugue State until he could get back to his own music.  It's been fun and Brent wishes the guys all the best.  (And he'll surely be working with some or all of them again at some point in the future, when time allows.)
This recording of "Stray Cat Blues" originally by the Rolling Stones is probably Brent's favorite from hours and hours of recorded rehearsals.  Hopefully, Fugue State will be posting some other recordings in the near future. (CLICK HERE TO LISTEN)

2) "探索台灣(Discover Taiwan)
performed by Terry Luan, Daniel St. Clair and Brent Scheihagen

Performed at Taipei's A House Cafe, this is only the second live performance of this song. Furthmore, it's performed entirely acoustically - one guitar and three voices - so it's considerably different from the original recording.  Check out some of Terry's other work HERE.
This show would be the last time Brent would get to perform with Daniel St. Clair - also performing that night with Fugue State - who returned to the U.S. to get his teaching certification only a couple of days later.  We miss his excellent drumming, unyielding optimism and good cheer, but we're happy that he's doing well in his current endeavors.  Come back soon, Daniel!

3) Hagen Music's 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!
On a final note, we'd like to celebrate our web site's first anniversary and we'll be posting some new things in celebration when we can, but more importantly we'll be reviewing what we've accomplished up to now on the Hagen Music Facebook Page.  Here's to another year!

I went runnin through the rhinestone racket
Of a disco dancehall in a long, tall jacket
And I can't stop laughin cos I can't stop drinkin
And I can't stop drinkin cos I'd just start thinkin
How the good times always get the best of me

New Video: "M-pahiya" - Live in Taipei!

Luguo Cafe (爐鍋咖啡)
29 October 2011

(by Brent D. Scheihagen)

This performance features Daniel St. Clair (on drums), Kyle Jeffcoat (playing shaker and providing additional vocals), and Marco Ortmann (on Djembe).  "M-pahiya" was the last song performed during Brent's set for a Halloween show with Fugue State, set up at his request as his parents were visiting from the States.  Despite the difficulty of squeezing so many people into a very small space, everyone had a great time. This was the last time that Brent has performed a full-length set, but he's looking forward to doing more shows again soon.  In the meantime, there are some other performances and recordings we look forward to sharing with everyone in the near future!

Thanks again to Lee Honghui (李虹慧) for filming and Lance Gura for the audio recording!

New Song: The Beatles "I'll Be Back"

Click here to see The Beatles original album cover
(Lennon/McCartney, arr. Brent Scheihagen)

Hello friends and fans of Hagen Music!

We've been away for awhile and may go away again for a time in the near future, so Brent wanted to share this one from the heart.  It's Brent's own rendition of The Beatles song, which was first recorded for the album 'A Hard Day's Night', released in 1964.  (The album cover of the same has also been lovingly replicated much to Brent's personal amusement.) Brent was many years from being born at the time, but would be introduced to them at an early age.

Brent is still attending classes here in Taiwan, learning Chinese slowly but surely. (我的中文一天比一天好!) He's on vacation at the moment and is hoping to get in another two or three posts before starting classes again.  After that, he will almost invariably be too busy to get in more than the occasional post, but (Have no fear! 不要怕!) we will continue to post music, videos, photos, news, performance updates, etc... In other words,  if we go away, we'll be back!

We'll be seeing you all here again soon with a couple of videos - featuring friends like Terry Luan, Daniel St. Clair - and more!
