New from Hagen Music: "Sainthood (聖徒身分)"

Sainthood (聖徒身分)

(music & lyrics: Brent D. Scheihagen)

You say you’ve got spirit

but I just don’t feel it

And all that we feared is coming round

You say it’s a breakthrough,

but I don’t believe you

And all that we can do is suffer now

I  never felt so low

But I won’t disappoint you

I may disappoint you

New Music: CSNY's "Country Girl"

Country Girl

(Neil Young; arr. Brent Scheihagen)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Country Girl" is a song originally written by Neil Young and recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young for their album "Deja Vu." The full title of the song is "The Country Girl Suite (a. Whiskey Boot Hill b. Down Down Down c. Country Girl I Think You're Pretty)."

I recorded this song as a kind of study some time ago, especially having done my best to learn and recreate the vocal harmonies. The rest of the arrangement differs to greater or lesser extent from the original. Anyway, I always loved the original.

Along with the Beatles, the Band and a few odd things like the Strauss's opening theme to "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and "The Blue Danube Waltz," Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young were another group that I recall enjoying before I had even learned to read.  Later, I received the CSN box set from a family friend while in high school and spent a lot of time learning how to harmonize by picking out and singing the different parts.  (I was especially enamored with Crosby at the time, which usually meant picking out the middle harmony - the most difficult!)  This song will not be the last in which I pay tribute to one of my early inspirations.

New from Hagen Music and Danger Young: "Check My Smile"

Check My Smile

(Music & lyrics by Terry Luan, arranged by Terry, Brent D. Scheihagen, Aaron Kraft, Mia & Erykah Wu)

叫我千萬富翁  有的錢比記憶體還多

付錢從來不囉唆  錢滾的利息佔收入最多

不要金卡銀卡 我們只有黑卡

用它來刷無盡的願望  數不完的想像

Give It a Try

(music & lyrics: Brent D. Scheihagen)

Gonna catch the moon

     in a gunny sack

Gonna drive the sun

     across the endless track

Gonna build some wings

     and we won’t come back

Gonna kiss the sky …

… give it a try

Work in Progress #8: News, Shows and Videos! January 24, 2013

Greetings all friends and fans of Hagen Music:

The workaday life that is teaching English in Taiwan continues to be a detriment to musical pursuits, but as always I'm pressing on with new music and performances as much as possible.  So I'm happy to bring good news as I've started performing once again!  Here's a run down of the latest news:

1) New collaborations and old - Guitarist Greg Tackett joins me on the road, while reuniting in the studio with friends Terry Luan and Aaron Kraft.

2) Performances - With our first gig under our belts, Greg and I look forward to performing regularly at venues across Taipei.

3) Videos - A couple of highlights from the "pilot" performance with Greg Tackett.

4) Photos - We were very lucky to have professional photographer, Zenith Lin, in our audience at last month's show and he was kind of enough to share them with us.

5) ... and more new music coming soon!
